  • 3DSMax xref MatID organization?

    Hey folks,

I don't employ the use of xrefs too often so was wondering if anyone has a good tool or just best-practice when it comes to organizing Materials/material IDs and avoiding duplicates across xrefs?

Hi James, I use material ID organizer by Pixamoon for organizing MatIDs: https://www.pixamoon.com/product-pag...l-id-organizer

As for avoiding duplicate materials and such. I don't use it, but you might want to try and create a 3dsMax file solely for your materials, then using these materials as Xref Materials in your other (main)file(s). That way you have all the same materials (and perhaps matIDs) everywhere else. If you need to change something, you'd have to change the material (or its ID) in the Max file with the materials, but then they should be good in all the other files.
