  • Alternate media players

Hey guys... wondering if you guys use an alternate media player for avi/mpeg files. I hate the MS one with all of its crap that it has, plus I really think it snoops into my stuff. I just want a plain fast mediaplayer that can do all the AVI/WMV/MPG streaming and non-streaming stuff that does not have a ton of freaking menus and buttons on it.

I recently installed Quick Time Alternative. It's free and quite simple.

I like the old school winamp mini - the new ones tend to hog real estate...

Media Player Classic IMO is by far the best. Combinded with a great codec pack Like ACE mega codec pack and your able to play anything.

anyway, you may also want to consider downloading this

80mb or so of pretty much every codec you could ever need. Only install what you need tho.

OK good... I'm not the only one that has a problem with the media players today. Yeap Media Player Classic seems to be the exaclty what I wanted (so far)

Another interresting Media Player is MPlayer for windows. You can get it here.
                          http://www2.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/rel...32-1.0pre7.zip
The Player actually has no gui. (Controllable over the keyboard)
You just drag and drop a file over a desktop icon. The good thing.. this player can play all video formats and all codecs
(at least I use it for about a year and never had a video file Mplayer was unable to play)
without installing any codecs to the system.
Actually you don ´t have to install the player at all. It´s just a directory
you have to copy somewhere. It has some more goodies.. like beeing able to play video files while they are still downloading or playing corrupted avi´s
I couldn´t open with any other player.
I use the Media Player Classic, too. But this is a good addition !
                          Give it a try !

                          cheers

Cool never thought of trying out mplayer.

Im guessing this is the same one that OSX has and probabaly also the same on that Xbox Media Centre uses part off.

                            Downloading now
