Since my spherical photo rig was stolen, I started to think buying a drone for my archipelago photo sessions. I wonder how does the homing works when onboard a moving boat. Or is it safe to use only on solid ground?

Another option would be a underwater drone. Local seabed is full of historic shipwrecks and the waters are shallow. Has anybody tried such thing?
    Here's one candidate to consider:

...and the next purchase would be wet suit, because I will lost it into seabed and dive by myself to rescue it.

The DJI drones have a feature for updating the home/return point if you are moving, like in a boat which they specifically discuss. They show that in the intro and getting started videos. They also sell relatively inexpensive insurance against losing or damaging the drone. I got the mini 3 pro with the fly more package plus the insurance

Is the camera worth the upgrade? We don't use our mavic much because the camera quality. I've seen nice images from the mini 3.

I have no knowledge of the previous version so can’t comment on if upgrade is worth it. The camera seems fine for backplate shots. It has very good reviews. Focal lengtht is 24 mm. Background mountain scenery is common for me and I need to shoot it at around 45 mm. So I have to use the 2x digital zoom which is said to be 48mm. Not ideal but it looks very good and works fine for distant scenery.

I think the mavic has three cameras and costs double the mini 3 pro. You can choose the 24, 70, or 10? focal length lens.

Is it doing some digital cropping. Usually, if you have enough megapixels in a camera, they sell the idea of different focal lengths. When in fact, it is doing some digital zooming and cropping. I say this because you do lose resolution when you zoom.

You understand it perfectly. Not ideal, still looks OK for distant background. I cannot justify double the cost, or more, for optical zoom and/or multi lens capable drone.
