Haha, I had plenty of those dongles. I started on Silicon Graphics / Unix with Explore, the ancestor of Maya. The dongles appeared only with PC/Windows if I recall correctly.

In the past, there used to be full 3D applications in magazine appendixes.
Giving away very old versions for free is a good idea.
