for me the top one looks fine
im on a 22" nec crt calibrated to srgb (supposed to be the most widespread color space that is supported by most devices)

but i have to agree that most ppl have extremely bright settings for their lcds (gues its the much higher contrasts they support)

hi ezrhythm, no i haven't calibrated my monitors. i'm usually working on 3 different monitors a day, my lcd pc, laptop and crt pc at work, and the top image looks fine to me on all 3.
it was only when i emailed jacko that the issue came up.

You may want to try and use this monitor calibration software. It is not perfect, but for quick and dirty it is great.

I got my Laptop and CRT at least in the same ballpark. BTW... If you have Adobe Gamma, turn it off. That thing is crap.
