  • Depth Of Field Generator PRO v2.0

    Hi guys;

    This is to let you know that we have officially released v2.0 of our very successful Depth Of Field Generator PRO plugin. You'll be happy to know that this now features full animation support directly from within the filter using industry standardized sequentially padded BMP file format.

    Depth of Field Generator PRO v1.5 and v2.0 now feature completely new and improved highlight preservation algorithms as well as new and improved Bokeh visibility algorithms. In addition, highlight enhancement modifications will now only proportionally affect defocused highlights thus leaving fully focused areas of the image untouched. These new code implementations produce depth of field camera effects that are extremely accurate and precise in simulating real-world phenomena.

    DOF PRO is not a replacement for VRay DOF - it is an alternative.

    GOOD WORK Richard. Just question, I have DOF Pro 1.0 - is there any upgrade price to 2.0 ? I can't find it on your pages ? ( I assume that the full price is good enough that you will not have any "upgrade" at all, but you know - if you don't ask ...

          It's a free upgrade for users of v1.x who registered before October 1st, 2005.

          Also, we are building up a user / studio gallery so we are looking for submissions. If you have any good work done with DOF PRO, please send it in!

                Can I ask if it works with the high precision Z-Buffer outputted from V ray in RLA files?

                  Looks really great, but what's the rendering speed compared with Lenscare? With Lenscare the depth map has to be no AA not filtered, so the original rendering's size has to be at least 2x output size, this is quite annoying when using GI and lots of blurry reflections. Can you tell us more about this issue?

                    i doubt it does, I tried the demo and the only file size recognized for depth map is BMP? Am I seeing that right?

                      Hey guys:

                      This does not work in AE as they changed their API. v2.5 will have fully animateable controllers so it will be as efficient as an AE version. AE requires a complere rewrite.

                      BMP's are the file types supported by DOF PRO. Hopefully this will expand in the future but for now, it is a common, all-around supported image file type that can be output by virtually any app.

                      We have not done speed comparisons with Lenscare but the filter has built-in depth map AA removal features so you don't have to worry about AA in depth maps. It also compensates for the AA removal by applying edge softening to remove jaggies. You also have control over how much of the edge to grab and soften.

                      We've had a great response so far - and very positive feedback. The next step is for v2.5 and the animateable controllers!

                        richard, why bmp? is it a special format or am I understanding this as windows bitmap format?
                        Since bitmaps dont carry alpha channels and have other restrictions. Multi format support would definently be the best option.

                            Hi Richard, just wanted to say that Im loving this plugin (v 2.0) its fantastic. Quick and easy to use, and it adds a lot of reality to images that are generally flat.
                            Keep up the great work, and Im looking forward to V 2.5!!!
