  • Free camera to AE

I thought I had this problem solved - how many times has that happened ?
Anyway I need to export a 3ds free camera to AE. I had been uisng the boomer labs max2ae plug-in and it worked a treat on the target camera. Now I have a free camera and even though it claims it does just as good a job, it messes things up. I have turned of oreintation on the 3d camera in AE it is slightly better but not much.

I have tried converting the Free camera to a targeted camera and it looses the orientation. The target is too close to the camera. I have tried every way I can think of to convert the camera but it doesn't want to be converted.
Does anybody have any tricks to converting camera's from free to targeted, or a fool proof way to get camera's into AE.

Thanks in advance for your help.

This is a bit of a workaround, but seems to work in my simple test here:

    Create Free Camera
    Animate as desired
    Create a Dummy
Add a Look At Constraint to box, selecting Free Camera as the Target
    Select Dummy
Go to Motion Tab, and select Trajectories
Click the Convert To spline button
Change the Look At Constraint on the Dummy to a Path Constraint
Select the spline you just created from the trajectory
    Check the Follow checkbox
    Select Free Camera
    Convert to Target Camera
    Select Camera Target
    Link Target to Dummy

As I mentioned, works in a simple test, but may require some tweaking to get it perfect.
