  • Max 8 Stability???

I got max 8 at last. But I'm a little wary of installing it. For those brave souls who've transitioned, how has it been behaving?

I did beta testing, last build was pretty solid, all though i didnt do deep work with it. And since we'r in mid production we cant upgrade until few month from now. So......

I've just started using it on a small project. Small enought to bail if I have too. No problems yet. VRay works like a champ too. I've basically jumped past v7 and went straight to v8.

I haven't tried it with DR or network rendering yet.

I've tried it as well and it's crashed on my computer 6 times in the last two days. Mainly when testing the new pelt unwrap. But also when just modeling.

I can't even remember the last time MAX 7 crashed! I'll be sticking with 7 for a while.

              Hi!

I´ve been using max 8 for a while and i can´t complain...no errors. ..I´ve merged max 7 models without an issue, i´ve worked extensively with pelt mapping, i´ve tried cloth, hair, modeling upwards, downwards, with a hand tied on my back, pretending i´m not the one who is modelling ...No problems yet...I haven´t tried backburner submitted works, but i will try for sure...
i´ve tried the new OPENEXR exporter and it works, and the new skin modifier is far better than it was but i dont know about its stability yet.

the only crash i´ve found was changing the order of some modifiers in the stack, but unfortunately i can´t remember which ones they were...The only thing i know is that edit poly was involved...and i guess my stack changes were illogical and mesh destructive anyway..

Same here, be using Max 8 for about a week, with no major problems, and only one crash, that was because I ran out of memory merging a high poly tree in.

The only issue I have right now has to do with combustion3. Combustion 3 instantly crashes when I try select an openEXR file made by max 8. No warning or nothing, just gone

Has anyone tried to open a max8 EXR with combustion 4? does it work? I was thinking of upgrading.

                best,
                Z

                  Hello!

I´ve exported openexr from max 8 and imported it into Combustion 4 and it works perfectly . Once u do it, be sure to activate the LUT option in the footage controls so that u are able to explore the dynamic range properly
