  • Frame Rate NTSC

    I am doing a project where I need to export keys to an AE comp that has a frame rate of 29.97. It appears that I cannot set 3ds 7.5 to adopt that as a frame rate. When I select NTSC in 3ds is it taking 30 frames as it's frame rate or 29.97 ?

    Frame rates always confuse the hell out of me.

    Thank You

    30 and 29.97 is almost exect thing, so this should work.
    things to remember about frame rates are:
    NTSC = 30 or 29.97
    PAL = 25
    FILM = 24

      The problem with 30 FPS

      A the problem is I am exporting keys for 3D objects from 3ds to AE. The comp the AE guys are working in is 29.97, in AE you can't have a key between frames so all this weirdness happens. They keys are fine in the beginning of the animation but is goes off as you go through the comp. I am going to ask my brother he is the AE guru here and I think he came up with a way to convert keys from one frame rate to the other.

      It is shocking that I always assumed NTSC in 3ds was 29.97. It has never been a problem before. To prempt the next question they are going to have - why don't you do it in Maya, I opened Maya and it is exactly the same. NTSC is so screwed up, roll on High Def !!!

      Thanks as always for your help.

        have them bring in your stuff at 30fps drop-frame. That would be 29.97, where you drop a frame every 1000th frame.
