  • scale problems

ive got a rigged human character that i downloaded but im having problem with the scale she was modeled in. basically its file units were ser to generic and the scene scale was 1unit=1inch but when i change my units to feet and inches which is what i always model in i get her being 17 feet tall. when i select the biped and rescale it her body goes to the right hight but things like the eyes dont resize properly. when i set scene scale 0.39units = 1 inch i get close to what i need but i cant leave the scene scale like that. i need to find out how to reset my scene scale to 1 unit = 1 inch yet let my models keep their dimensions. and if you merge a biped into another scene with a different scale the character folds up. I dont know what to do.

Have you tried the "rescale world units" in the utility panel, might work, probably not. :P

I have read that it is very dificult to rescale biped rigs, never had to do it though.

elf, make a clean scene with correct scale that works for you. Then you need to go to units setup/system units setup and uncheck respect system units in files. After that you can merge your rig and it should come in at the correct scale.

You can always use a point cache modifier with your animated character, delete the biped bones, and voila, u can resize your mesh without an issue

well then i can delete my bones and do that without the point cache mehod. im not talking about an aniated character. im talking about a rigged static character waiting to have anim added. my max default is 1unit = 1 inch and i always model in feet with decimal inches. therefore i would like this model to be the right size so that when ever i need it i dont need to go through a whole lot of trouble to get it to work.

Have how u scaled the biped? It should be scaled through figure mode, changing the height parameter. Why does this character has the eyes as separate objects? Could u afford to attach the eyes to the mesh, so that they scale properly as a whole mesh? Obviously the resulting mesh should have the skin modifier applied to it. This way, when u changed the biped height, the mesh would adapt itself to this new condition.

yeah. but then th eyes wont be able to move. ive never seen an animatable character whoes eyes were attached. and yes i did rescale it in figure mode

                    Da_elf

This might not be the best method but you can make a dummy object and then link the bip01 to the dummy......then you can scale the dummy. Like i said though.....this is prolly not the best methodcause it might cause some problems with the skinning and such....but give it a whirl.

                      elf i got another idea:
try xref scene into your fresh scene with the model, bind the xref to a dummy and scale that. Then merge the xref scene.
