  • Z-Brush Again

So I am heavy into learning Z-brush and I have to say it is as confusing as all hell. I must be too linear in my thinking or something, I am working my way through the Practical Guide tutorials working being the operative word - it is hard work !!. The main thing I can't get to grips with is the selection system for Hiding and unhiding things. It just doesn't seem to work with any kind of logic.
Maybe I am using it wrong or is it just funky and unpredictable? It seems to have total disregaurd for what I am trying to do. I get the whole red box green box thing, but it seems never to work right - sometimes it inverts the selection, sometimes it only works if the whole polygon is selected sometimes it doesn't do anything at all !!!! it's driving me crazy - do the Z-brushers out there use this tool ?

    Thanks as always

    Hi!

First at all, this is my post number 100! :P :P :P :P

Secondly, u´ll have to spend time to get the hang of it. Hardcore zbrushers use it all the time, but frankly, for not-so-heavy models there´s no need to be hiding here and there. But if u work with complex characters u should learn how to take profit of it. Zbrush feels different than max, because it doesn´t share the same inner workflow, but once u get used to sculpt with it, u feel strange in max, moving vertexs up and down.

      Inner workings

The concept is so strange - not being able to select objects and know that you have them selected, it is sort of suffocating. I have seen some amazing work done with the brush by some great artists, it is just my mind that has the problems. It is sort of fiddly doing the Ctrl Shft Drag lift Shft thingie, I would prefer a more direct keyboard shortcut, if only to get me started.
I will hang in there - at least until my Gnomon DVD's arrive, I should have spent the extra $$$ for the 2 day delivery !!!
