  • drive letter vs UNC?

Can anyone explain why some of my map paths are resolving the drive letter to the UNC path? Files on a shared workstation drive show up as the drive letter, but file on the server keep resolving to the UNC. This will really suck in a few months when we get a new network server and switch the drive letter to the new server.

Yes, I can use the path editor utility to fix the problem when it arrises, but I'd rather have all my paths set correctly to begin with. Thanks for any help.

I can't explain why some of your paths are resolving to unc and some are not but you can stop all paths from resolving to unc by unchecking the box Preferences>>Files>>Convert to UNC. Then if you want a specific path to be unc go and find it through 'My Network Places'.

That's it! Thanks so much. I've never come across that option before.

          Sharing a bug we had

The DR on our RenderFarm was not able to see maps proprely when it was mapped with a letter, and it works just perfectly with UNC
(Backburner had no problems of finding the same maps)

Don't know if this is a common thing, just sharing in case you have to do the work the other way around
