ACAD 3DMAX Block Separation

If someone created a file with ACAD Blocks in it, and it imports into Max - is there a way to make each item within these blocks unique? Currently, if I unlink the parents some items disappear. If I rotate one, the others move in different directions. If I move one - the others move quite wildly.

you won't have any links but the legacy dwg importer should seperate them.

I don't use it so I'm not sure, maybe a snapshot of them would work?

It's really hard to explain unless youve encountered this. It's basically grouped Autocad objects that other people provide you with.
