I got an Epson Perfection 3170 a couple years ago. Great little scanner, IMO. I actually got it because I needed something that would do film (slides and negs) for a particular job, although that was not my main focus. It comes with handy little trays to mount various sizes of slides or prints in so you can scna to multiple files in one pass.

I haven't used it for film since then, but I use it quite regularly for general use and I've had no complaints.

What are you looking to do with it? I've got a cheapy HP 4600 see-through I picked up for about $40. It's much better than my scanner of 5 years ago, yet it does the job and does it pretty accurately. It doesnt do negatives tho.

Epson Perfections had top rankings across the board for a long time and I've always liked using them - but they can range over the $300 mark. I always found that no matter what, I've had to do post corrections on the scans - especially bringing in negatives.

I will honestly say that my cheapy scanner does just as good of a job color-wise and it was a good purchase.
