Botany - creating plants in 3D

I am ramping into a project that might involve making a small city park and some suburbian tree lined streets. Any suggestions and or recommendations for 3rd party tree/plant software. Bearing in mind ease of use and more importantly stability - as I will probably be rendering GI with Vray.
