Mouse suggestions?

Hey guys!

Im after a new mouse for use with Max etc and just wondered if you guys had any recomendations for a really good mouse that's comfortable to use? I had a Microsoft mouse back home that was quite chunky that I liked but I left it in the UK when I moved

Any suggestions would be great

Well, I've always been a trackball fan and use a Kensington Expert Mouse - saves a lot of wear and tear on the wrists, and with double monitors you can just spin the trackball to go from one side of one screen to the other screen.

Me too. I've used Logitech for many years because of my wrists. I prefer their thumb design over the more popular finger models. That way I keep my fingers on the buttons. I also have my Wacom, so I can use a pen or mouse when it's better suited to what I'm doing. (Or if I just want a change )

Oh I tried a trackball a couple of years ago and absolutley hated using it with max, it felt so akward to me. I'd rather stick with a mouse.

Simply buy the cheapest optical microsoft mouse. It's very light, form is good and it doesn't have 50 buttons all over the place on which youcan press accidentally. It doesn't hurt your wallet either when you smack it against the wall during a nervous breakdown!

just a point - I avoid wireless mice - they are much heavier and that puts strain on your wrist and fingers

wired are cheap and if its not comfortable just buy a different model

I use a wireless Micro$oft mouse however they are heavier and the middle mouse button is definetly harder to click than that of the wired M$ mice we have. The freedom of Wireless is nice but you'll have to try.

Logitech look like they make nice mice and the ones I have tried in the stores seems nice.

i use a logitech mx 510 - not wireless, light, buttons are far easier to press than the late microsoft ones (especially the middle button on the new intellimouse explorer is extremely hard to press)
there should be a newer model than the 510 tho' - i think its the 518

btw: for photoshop and the likes i use my wacom almost exclusively, too - but for max an A4 Oversize (12"x12") tablet feels a bit huge

Can you recommend a model? Why is it less damaging to use a tablet, you also need to click a button on the pen or not?

wacom has just introduced a wide A5 tablet - should work better for two screens - around £250...

on the wishlist!

i have an intuos 2 A5 size.
its perfect for dualscreen.
A4 is to large i think.

the problem with a mouse is that it forces your hand into an unnatural position.
if you let your hand relax and drop down to your side it will move into the same position that it has when holding a pencil.

leftclicking is done by touching the surface of the tablet.
right and middle buttons are operated by your thumb.

there is also a battery-free mouse that comes with the wacom. i use that for some first person games like quake.

you just put the pen aside and put the mouse on the tablet.
the driver than instantly switches to mouse mode.
