  • Anyone in the US have Verizon FIOS?

I'm thinking of switching ISPs as soon as Verizon FIOS comes to my area. Does anyone have any experience/thoughts of this service yet?

I have it at home, it absolutely rocks. This month they started offering it by my office (it's only 5 minutes from home but took 4-5 months to get there too) so I plan to get it there too. I reccomend it.

Where are you located around Boston? they have been expanding quite rapidly lately. So I'm sure they'll get to your area soon.

Wow. I just got off the phone with Comcast and the know-it-all Digital Phone (VOIP) person told me FIOs was a bunch of BS - "Read the fine print- it's the distance from the center..." No arguing logic with some people. 15mbps downloads with 2mbps up - just half a full T3 for the same price!

I'm tired of Comcast and their shenanigans - jacking their prices up slowly every month. So this inovation/price reduction is welcome news.

I'm right outside of Boston - ten minute drive. They've installed the Fiber Optic lines all around this town and hopefully we're next. Their support person told me that they they are slower to release to many cities because many places/apartments are duplexes which requires alot of rewiring. He told me to keep an eye out for a bunch of their trucks and the top of the poles should have a yellow tag which reads Verizon.

hehe, I have the 'basic' fios and in speedtests is very very close to the advertised bandwith.

When I called comcast to cancel my cable they would not let me do it, they kept insisting and asking what I wanted, I ketp saying '2MB upload' until they gave up.

FIOS is eating their lunch. You will see the trucks, they have a huge banner saying "FIOS IS HERE" when you'll see it you'll be chasing it like an icecream truck when you where a kid.

The icecream truuck told me that their premium service (30mb down, 5 up) is not selling at all. I told them that they should do a 15down, 5up for $70) he mentioned that lots of people have been requesting a 5MB up in a package cheaper that $150/month, so you never know.

BTW, what do you do for work (vray related?). I have a small design firm. Drop me a line if you want to chat some more. We always like to meet more local vray users.

Ah you're Framingham. Medford here. We should definitely grab a beer sometime then.

They have the 30mbps/5 up package for $175-200/month. T3 speeds. It would be good (and possibly overkill) if I had full-time employees. But still. Drools...
