I have heard not so good things about alienware.. if you want to pay alot for a machine and actually have something worth while i would recommend Boxx over Alienware anyday

with that being said, now that Dell has their hands on them.. maybe they will be better.

Dell had recently gotten into the high-end gaming market a bit more than a year back after seeing how well Alienware sold. Dell isn't that bad of a company - I can't speak for alienware other than I think their cases look gay and they're a bit on the pricey side. But their specs do look good so I could only hopefully see something positive coming out of it.

May be AMDx2 with a good price and with the "alien head on'
                          =:-/

regarding the pricing: the statement from dell was that alienware could profit from dell's strong position with component vendors and its distribution

btw: at least over here dell is held in high regard for its support - esp. their very short response times (at least this was the reason two companies i worked at purchased/leased dell machines)
i guess that would be of interest to possible buyers of high-end alienware systems, too

                              Hey boyos.

I had an extremely negative experience with Alienware, and afterwards I did a lot of digging and I'm far from the only one. Check this link to my comment on Slashdot for my story -- also my first post to be modded +5 Informative!

                              http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=180269&cid=14925077

I think the acquisition is a great deal for Alienware. They've been going the right way for a bad reputation in the industry, as DaForce has indicated, and I fear it may have finally been getting the better of their marketing machine.

As to Dell's new XPS ultimate gaming line, the hardcore review sites have panned it saying that as it comes loaded to the gills with bloatware, it's effectively crippled and it's a major hassle for users to do a clean install on their own since Dell now bundles the OS and drivers into a ghosted recovery drive.

Unfortunately these days -- so does everyone else!
