  • linux render maneger

Hi I'm transferring 1 node into a linux and will use it to store all maps, and will render all animation frames into that machine.
Did anyone tried to install backburner or any other render queue on Linux?
meaning the manager will be on Linux.

Would you mind giving a brief description of what is involved with this? Can you just connect it and go?

You can connect and go with a fileserver...but as there´s no linux-backburner the mangement will be tough. We got a fileserver holding scenes/maps etc and a windows machine that runs backburner. I dont know if you can run backburner inside a virtual environment on a *nix box..

well , first stage has gone succssesfuly , i now have a linux machine that is mapped as a networked drive , it now holds alll maps and its the machine which all the render nodes are rendering into.

If a manager is on a windows machine wouldent there be a 10 connections limit to that manager?

I've been able to get 11 connections on my XP pro SP2 machine. The maps are on a NT4 workstation. I had some trouble initially but it seems to be working now. I'm worried that I may run into trouble again though. It's ridiculous that we should have to buy a server OS just to network render.

I run the manager on wokstation xp with up to 26 conections at t6he same time! I never had a problem. but when it comes to saving the rendered images it´s a problem. I have to save them to a xp server.
