As someone who IS a beta tester... I think the Sun/Sky is cool, BUT it is not the holy grail. IBL and area lights are more interesting, more versital and offer more artistic latitude... and something that is available in your current version. Just a side note. If you think that th best part of 1.5 is going to be the sun/sky... boy will you be happy to find out how wrong you are... there is SO much more that is great about it.

Well, I figure it will be good for quick setups. I just got my panoramic gear all together and the workflow down, so I need to go out one weekend and shoot a few 'stock' backgrounds.

I'm more looking forward to the fast-sss and ambient/dirtmap. But, I think the killer feature (of what's been displayed so far) is the HDR-mapped dome lighting that produces caustics.

Actually, don't know if this is the right place to ask, but before I go shoot the HDR's, is there a specific latitude range that works best? I currently meter for the correct exposure, then shoot 3 stops over and 4 stops under this value. Will more exposure info be needed to get better results with the HDR dome mapping?

Chris: I'm sure this is a dumb question, but what is IBL? Not familiar with the abbrev.

Min of 8 I would say, generally want to be near 12. A high quality one would be around 20 stops. Also lean your stops towards the low end where your light sources turn to pin points and start to saturate (bsaically where they are no longer white). That is very hard to do with the sun.

There are a large number of people that I'd consider legitimate that don't frequent here. For example, one company (no names mentioned) in this city must have at least 15 licenses, but I'm aware of only two employees post to the forum (and not that often) and only under one account name... They may have more licenses - I know they have about 30 employees. Plus, companies also outsource work to other people and it would be nearly impossible to track down that information.

But a simple response to this situation is, "I am an official tester so f*** off." Problem solved.
