  • PSU for x2 slave?

    Hi,
About to buy/build a couple x2 4200 render slaves and wondering what the recommended PSU would be?
The last x2 i built, i put a 500w PSU in but thats a workstation/gaming machine with a high end graphics card in.
Can i get away with 400w or lower?

    Cheers.

checking back an a psu review (03/2006):

they measured pc components for their power consumption:
    Code:
    									Max |	Average
    Highend Dual-Core CPU: 140W	90W
    Highend Graphics Card 100W	60W
    Mainboard 25W 20W
    1 Gig of RAM 10W 8W
    1 HDD 30W 25W
    1 Cooler 3W 3W
    DVD 15W 5W
excuse the strange layout - thought the code mode would use equal spacing
depending on your intended system you can sum those up yourself

you shouldn't run the psu at 100% - lowers its life expectancy considerably
they suggest reserving an additional 100W to be sure (and for future components that will draw even more power)
    -------------
suggestions for 500W psus (depending on where you are it might be difficult to get those - the review was in a german magazine):
prices in euro (street prices should be somewhat lower)

    2. Seasonic
    S12-500W
    130€
    3. Q-Technology
    GT-08560G/Dustproof
    145€
    4. Enermax

    Silentstorm SHA535-9A

    80€ - their budget recommendation
I have the 400W version of this one and it's really quiet

I really like my Antec Truepowers. They've been in the business for a long time and pretty quiet overall.
