  • rumour and speculation - 3dsmax 9?

OK this subject drives some people mad, but I find it interesting especially because I am on the verge of investing $$$$ in my home system with software upgrades.
I just got a quote from Boxxtech for a new machine, I was curious about the bundled price- including 3dsmax When the salesman wrote back he Strongly recommended that I go on subscription as autodesk would be releasing a major upgrade to 3dsmax in coming year. This could be that he wanted to collar me into subscription, or it could mean that he knows something big is coming down the pipe and he wanted me to get that full advantage of subscription.
You tell me? - am I going crazy seeing something that isn't there or will 3dsmax be going through some crazy transformation in the next couple of months ?

Autodesk has been maintaining an annual update schedule for 3DSMax. As long as they continue to make annual releases, the subscription is cheaper than purchasing the upgrade each year.

seeing as how boxx is supporting the 64bit line of chips im just going to go out on a limb here and guess he might have been refering to a 64bit version of max to be released soon

If i had to guess i would say that you're prolly going to see alot of pipeline integration stuff bridging Maya and MAX. FBX is probably most logical but who knows. Then they'll probably buy up a bunch of smaller companies and integrate their technology as per usual.

                  Really 5 versions

Is it really 5 versions ago that this rumour was started - my word, no wonder everybody is so jaded by the whole thing. It just bugs me that people out there know and the rest of us are left guessing right up to the last moment. What are you going to do, chances are the we'll end up getting screwed one way or another

I have heard that rumor since max 3 (which is the reason I bought max not viz)

Actually I think they are just changing the name again. Now it will be called 3dm.

Actually they did discontinue Viz at one point for about a year then brought it back...
