  • Debevec rocks!

Just today, a great workshop with Paul Debevec !!!

...but, he told me that he never used vray...

i heard horror stories as to the cost of the seminar.
Him using vray aside, was it interesting?
And most importantly, was it worth the 100 or so euros it costed?

    cheers,

    Lele

      The workshop was quite good.
He didn't talk about anything you can't find around the web about him, but I was pretty happy to spend 100€ to hear such things from his own mouth...

About vray, he was interested in it for some cool features of the renderer about hdri sampling computation

150 (!) euros (100 if you're quick, or know you can go there in advance. Lucky those and the students, hey!) i could go listen to Ben Harper's and the BOSS's mouths easily.

But then, maybe it's just me, and the event was ground shocking.
Judging from what's on the list to let me shell dosh i'd say it most definitely was not.

        ARGUMENTS:
        * Image-based modeling and rendering
        * High dynamic range imaging and image-based lighting
        * Digitizing photoreal objects and environments
        * Creating photoreal digital actors and virtual performance relighting

What was missing from his whitepapers available on his and the siggraph's sites? Did he dance, at least? Or speak for 8 hours?

Then again, there are those for which 150 euros is like going to watch a movie, one i'd rather watch from the confort of my own house, in this case...

I agree with you (about Ben Harper), but it was really shocking to talk with a legend of our everyday job about lighting technicques while drinking a good wine glass...

Yhat's my point: if one wants to spend money to STAND beside a "personality", fine.
I can see this have a lot of fortune in Italy

I'd rather save money, study, and try and be better than that personality, to be honest.
Not that i ever will, but it suits my mindset better.

That said, you're a lucky chap

He was probably refering to Vray's implementation of the Median Cut algorithm: http://gl.ict.usc.edu/research/MedianCut/

Which is not really what V-Ray uses, although the technique is somewhat similar in concept.
