  • Compositing float images in Combustion lost the float datas?

    I m was making some tests in Combustion in order to blend exr 32bits images exported from a vrimg file.

    So I did diffuse x rawGI and then ADD the rawLighting.

    diffuse x RawGI result is OK : it is still a floating point image since I have on it brighter area than 1.

    BUT...

    Then when I ADD the rawlighting pass, the result is clamped = no more brighter area than 1

    Is this normal?

    yes

    Forced us to go APPLE + shake 3.5 to comp exrs that came out of Maya and Mr.

    YOu can try also alpha premult on an rpf or exr: that clamps to one too.
    SO silly.

    But it can be wroked, it just needs some patience, and a DIFFERENT format (all the way to 4.03 the issue is still there, and not looking a good candiate for a solution...).

      The alpha premultiplication stuff is real crap. It can be avoided to some extent using matte controls, like erode or blur instead of premultiply.
      But I agree with you, it's awful how combustion deals so poorly with this -important- issues.

        yeah, Erode is king in combustion, lol

        "What's that fringe there?" "Which fringe?"
        "Mmmh, and what's that black gap, now?""Which black gap?"
        "but now the fringing is back!""Which..."

        for i in combustion.version.number where basicstuff.cannot.be.done say(
        discreet combustion == polite fart
        havealaugh(i)
        gc()
        )
