No offense to those that like it, but while it is very good technically but artistically speaking, it is the definition of Kitsch.... might as well be a porcelain figurine in a glass case next to the sea shell art.

While I am not thrilled by some of the texturing, the skin is a little off, but kitsch? More like a classic portrait IMO.

                  i agree 100%
most stuff on cgtalk and exposé, very high quality, but so cheesy i can't bear it.

not that my 3d work has any value, but i need the money.

Well defining Kitsch is subjective and very hard to do. I wrote a paper on the subject way back when. A lot of "classic" or "revival" art sits on the boarder of kitsch. It is why I have so many issues with post modern architecture. At least with artists like Jeff Koons who's work is made to place kitsch in your face it is intential. Anyway, art is very subjective so I will leave it at that.

                      Nailed on the head Chris!
He's from where the porcelaine figurines come from in the first place, apparently

Cool, but my point, though admittedly not very clear. Is that the format is more just an ode to the classic portrait style in which the artist is showcasing his/her texture, lighting and modeling skills and should be judged on that basis. If the piece was displayed in a heavy wooden frame and being sold as art then I would tend to agree with the kitsch descriptor.

Look at those with the taurus, fishes and water.
                          Bloody hell.
                          I think he IS good.
Then again, i am talking about how nicely put together his comps are, and how technically prow he is.
Wether it's kitsch or not i wouldn't know.
But Chris, you wouldn't employ a guy like him, to direct and let him do what YOU need?
                          I would
