    There's an article in the latest Discover how one artist is making buildings/structures look like miniatures. He's shifting a camera's focus so that the surrounding areas are heavily blurred and it ends up making his images look like toys:

    and they actually think this is something new and wonderfull? its what we have to tell people here all the time about over use of DOF

      Even if it can be done easily in 3d, i find it wonderful in real life buildings, especially with long distance shots! Really cool effect, soon to appear in a movie for sure...

          It can come in handy for creating pieces such as 'Balsa' renderings. Not everyone is directly aware of over-using DOF and the effect it creates. It's a little bit presumptuous to think otherwise.
