• vray vs maxwell...(not what you think)

seeing as i m terribly bored with the whole maxwell versus vray discussion
i thought i could use the follwing app to compare their forums visually

http://www.aharef.info/static/htmlgraph/

VRAY FORUM

MAXWELL FORUM

it looks like maxwell wins for me
it might have to do with the fact that i can finally try a working demo while i wait for vrays sun/sky system ( which everyone else has apart from me)

is chaos doing a bit of "cebas" lately ???

anyway nough of that
feel free to post images of your websites or other ones that you might think

regards

why would it win ? i dont get it...just cause there's more points ? and why would chaos do cebas ? they neither release buggy versions (what you actually request if i got you right ??? ) Nor do they embedd their plugins into your scenes in ways that make them completely unusable after a year...

And that graph obviously only parses the forum structure...and just cause the maxwell forum has a gazillion subforums (even some odd japanese ones) doesnt make it any better, does it ?

I just dont get it i assume

there IS a way to have the same maxwell/vray sky for free.
I'd suggest you looked for those with a proper google search.
here's a sample of my own making, of course, without vray or any 3d app.
The hdr has a low sun, so shadows won't be very sharp, no matter what multiplier you set to the hdr.
But this will render with any renderer, and could be comped in as a 3d backdrop in any compositing application with some texturing capability (shake/fusion/combustion/nuke and so on).

As for the site, that is PRECISELY what maxwell is about: MUCH ADO FOR NAUGHT.
If you filter down the number of posts which are not rants, or answers to those, that tree would be pruned to smitherens.
Here, on the contrary, bar a few silly threads (like the vray 1.5 announcment one ) there is juice at every squeeze.
Q&As, tools, scripts, tutorials, and what not.
And oh, the chief architect for the tool in question DOES answer here frequently (i think the average is around 3posts/day).
Quality, versus hype.

Now that I've looked at the generator site - much of the code has to do with the way the site is coded - you cannot gauge anything froma 'popularity' standpoint just because you see one portion of their site is all bumdled together.

guys, guys
relax
this was just meant to be a bit of fun while trying to poke around with a stick ( it works..) mainly out of boredom and frustration (1.5 where are you?)

thanks for the suggestions though as i was ready to buy 10 or so maxwell licences based completely on these graphs...

well, broh, i'm glad you didn't drop polemics at all, or i'd have felt really guilty

1.5 is prolly where it ought to be: under testing and scrutiny.
It's also very likely we won't see any RC, nor any 1.5beta.
Indeed, it's likely that by when it's out, it WILL work.
And just so we're clear, i think my studio last paid for a version 1.
Which worked.
And it's about to receive a WORKING version 1.5 when it will be ready.
Again, quality against quantity.
May this hint let you buy ten licenses of vray...

It gets annoying when certain users casually use and mention features that the average user has no access to. Fortunately, 1.4703 is a solid release that has served me well. But so does Photoshop 6.0.

It is indeed, Frances, i agree.
Still, it normally stimulates my ingenuity, rather than hampering it.
That's where that Preetham hdr sky comes from.
It's free, legit, identical to the vray's one, and works exceedingly well in any number of apps.
Of course, it's probably a lot slower than having the vray sky (i deduce it from the difference in having a blue hdr as BG and using vray's color to replace it), but the functionalities (and the colours!) are pretty similar.

Then again, i never moved on from photoshop 7

Where does it come from? Can't seem to find it.
