  • curve smoothness in max

Anyone know why sometimes curves exported from autocad to Max (as .3ds) sometimes do not come out very smooth...even with facetres set to 10? Sometimes in files it happens to me, while in others it does not. Maybe I am accidentally changing a setting?

It's because there aren't enough vertices on the spline. After you've imported the spline into Max go to sub object segment. Then select the segments that are the most jagged and use the divide function to add more points.

It is the Surface deviation parameter, AFAIR, while importing the DWG in MAX. Lowering that value will smoothen your "curved" geometry.

Yes, that will fix it. The value usually has to be VERY small...like .01 or smaller. Just watch your poly counts as you lower it.
