  • pdf as mask?

    hi all!

this is really not a vray question, but is it possible to use a pdf as a mask map?

the problem is: if i texture a huge parking space or highway i use a psd or tif to mask out the traffic lines on the asphalt.

but this map becomes huge if i want fine detail for close-ups.

    any ideas?

Nope - there's no support for vector images, you're best bet for getting something like that with huge resolution would be to use the mesh and assign material ids. The alternative would be to use two different resolutions maps, one for close up and another for far away and use the composite map to blend them over each other.

The only thing I can think of but can't confirm is the combustion map type - this takes a combustion workspace as a map and since combustions pain engine is vector based it might give you what you want. That said I'm not sure whether max treats it like a bitmap on import and locks the map size to the width and height specified in combustion or treats it as a vector that it can resample for every different size.
