Yeah i think maybe we should have one generic light box which all materials are shown on, and then a few specific mini scenes for things like arch materials. To see how those sorts of materials really acting in the appropriate setting.

    Sounds ok?

I'd rather compare things in the light where they'll be used just like the simulated sunlight they have at the paint store, rather than putting them in a color-neutral enviro.

      What do others think?

Well, I'm of the opinion that they should be initially setup/rendered in a neutral environment of some sort. Then, you or I could take it and render the samples using the environment of our rendering to show it to our clients with the blue shadows, yellow tint, etc.

I don't know about you, but our materials frequently look very different in different scenes because of lighting setup and where they are in the model.

I hear you. I can see both sides. Certainly, I'd like the controlled lightbox setup to see the physical characteristics of a material's response to light. I'm just tired of the hassles. I wish I could have people pick a color swatch that actually looks somewhat like it will look in the rendering. Because no matter how many times I explain it, *that's* what they are looking for.

        So...... who's gonna do it?

I will start a thread a little later on. Then we can start gathering ideas for the scene/models/lightbox, instead of bulking out this thread, plus it will be in the general section and not with a subject of maxwell which alot of people may just not bother with..
