Or if you have the extra space, RAID 5 which involves 3 or more drives - striping and mirroring in parity. I personally do 0+1 for speed and security - its slightly faster than RAID 5 but involves 4 drives.

But Crossbow is right - the extra $100 or so is worth it if it means the potential to lose alot of work to a faulty hard drive. Really, everyone should do this as most motherboards have the capability these days.

I finally got my new machine ordered and it should be here in a week or so. I was able to get two 5160's, 3.0 GHz Dual Core Xeon's, so that will be nice. The rest of the system is the same. Once I get it setup, I'll try out some test renders to see how the speed is. Should be sweet!

Thank you all for the help!

I finally got Max and VRay setup on my new machine and just ran the benchmark. I got basically 1 min 55 sec, so that's dramatically improved over my old machine which I think gave me something close to 8 mins. Here's a link to my benchmark image in the benchmark thread: http://www.chaosgroup.com/forum/phpB...=144081#144081

Many thanks for your insight in helping pick out this machine!
