  • Other Companies Asking for Rates

I had a recent contact asking via email:

We are a fellow design firm, with the occasional need to outsource illustration, animation and web design projects. Can you please send work samples, contact information and rate(s).
I feel like I get phished for information quite regularly and am wondering if the interest is genuine. I really don't want to 'waste' my time giving out private information to 'competitors/strangers.' As it is, I have samples on my website that this person could have easily visited.

How would you handle this type of inquiry? Would you respond - perhaps even call?

ya I would just tell the politely that you dont discuss rates until you have met them personally or at least over the phone to discuss possible employment.

Tell them to send you details on the project (sample plans, what they want renderings of, etc.) and you'll send them a proposal. That way you never reveal "rates".

The question would be what do they really want.. A while back, I was working in a interior design firm, and that would happen from time to time

Smaller design firms, that often have no visualisation ressources in-house, would "rent" us to do their visualisation work.

So mabee they just want your company services. But, I have to agree that the message you did receive was quite vague.
