Paul this does seem strange about fry rendering so fast. Number one, is that sunlight through dielectrics is "working" in fry is odd to me too since from what I can remember it was not possible to solve this in maxwell. Number two is that those images are literally noise free. I doubdt that such clean images can be produced in under an hour a frame time.

Well I got several thoughts about FrYr... Short - It's as Physical as VRay. Maybe slightly "more" unbiased
And not an hour - 50minutes on DUAL CORE CPU. This makes me think of twice increase on Single. BTW - Maxwell makes similar image in 50minutes with 15sl.
So - if you ask me I prefer FrYr. than Maxwell.I just can't seem to trust myself
So what chance does that leave, for anyone else?

There are other similar renders that are as fast if not faster. I have been playing with Busyray(www.busyray.com) recently and that is mega fast, plus it uses standard max textures and lights and cost $49!! I took the liberty of rendering the study hall, this is what it looks like after 40mins at 1280x768. The vray one still looks better and in my eyes rock but to render it with busyray all I did was check preview and press render. No tweeking of settings as there aren't any.
This renderer is still in its infancy but it shows potential...and is miles better IMO than Maxwell or Fryrender. Of course Vray rules
Anyway here is the image.

Here's one at 800X480. LWF, Imap (high, 50/20) w/ DE, LC (1000,.02). Vray Physical camera, reinhard mapping (Burn=.35).

Morbid Angel - almost all textured materials and glossy and chrome - VRay mat (maybe I missed smth )
dlparisi - I never meant to compare it in THAT way. Just wanted to make it nice and clear. And VRay is almost final and production ready pro-tool, while FrYr. is still in early development. I can say - one-button_press-and-go solution. It's too early to compare. Just my 5cents... Like new render engines, except maxwell
Nowadays, when multi-core monsters a trully came to almost any workplace pretty damn easy (compared to optimizing and etc.) to write smth, that don't use sophisticated methods of approximating GI solution... Maybe I'm too damn straight, but look at the market - you can clearly see, that there's a lot of tools, that are capable to render smth phys. accurate etc., but... damn too slooooow.
So, by rendering this images, just wanted to say, that "they" can be more accurate, than real life (kiddin' ), but VRay is still fater, and can do things you want it to do
That's it... nothin' more, nothin' less.
P.S. Hope, there won't be any mass destruction global flame-war :PI just can't seem to trust myself
So what chance does that leave, for anyone else?

Sorry for the quick post with no real comment about it. I didn't post to bash FryRender, just to comment that your time seemed a little slow and was at a higher resolution. I'm not experienced with Maxwell but from what I've seen of Fry it appears to be fairly fast and produce some really nice, "one-button" images.www.dpict3d.com - "That's a very nice rendering, Dave.
