      do that with realflow, and anyone would go "hey, that's CG!"
      I think their beauty sits with their being entirely analogue (well, but for the camera, probably).
      I worked in a place in Florence a year ago where they made WATER cartoons for the main japanese tv channel (NHK, is this possible?), and those people bought them because they were made by hand, in some incredibly clever, and laborious way.
      I can tell you the person doing those would go about tapping her fingers on any flat surface every 5 seconds for a month after a set of episodes was done...
      Thinking it would have been little more than spline animation in CG makes me shiver
