  • Slow Instancing...

I've got a scene with low polys - lots of instances and all arranged by layers. I turn off everything and the viewport is still fast. But, copying/instancing new object is really slow. It only happened after instancing "too much."

Anyone have any ideas what is happening and how to resolve this?

Xrefs didnt work. I found a temporarily solution. 'Save selected' offending instances, then delete in main scene. Right before render, merge the offending instances - all is good again.

      What a piece of crap.

Guess what, i must have used "You gotta love Max" talking to juju about it on msn.
This may be silly, but a solution for static instances would be to position them as individual instances, then collapse and join a number of them into one object (say trees).
Then try and make the most of the newly formed object, either as non-instanced mesh or as VRayProxy.
I had over 2k instances at one time in max, and it wasn't that slow, anyways.
Not a rocket either, but hey :P
