3D Printing in the UK?

Hi Guys, A client wants the building from a scene im working on turned in to a Physical model (3D printed, correct term?).
Any one know of any company that does this in the UK?

try a google search for "stereolithography in UK" or "rapid prototyping in UK" it will return some companies for you to look at. i did alot of this back in college a couple years ago and its not as easy as converting your 3d meshes and pressing print. you really need to build the model specifically for rapid prototyping. alot of detail in the model may not be a good idea...but that depends on the scale. one one my first attempts was a detailed highrise hotel an architect send me. it basically collapsed on itself while it was building over night because it wasn't modeled with RP in mind.

Thanks Joe, always best to have the correct term/name when trying to find out info about something!!!

Interesting point about detail, i'll keep that in mind. The architect was talking about maybe doing it so that the roof and first floor can be detached from the model, this could be a good thing then as each part could be separately made...

Whats there pricing like?, im quessing something like this doesn't come cheap!!

Jow, no it wasn't cheap, but they are a top quality firm with a top quality service. I got a 700mm long scale yacht built a few years back - cost was about £2k if I remember corrctly. Could be cheaper these days?

we just bought a z310 from cad venture

they have a very good bureau service as well that i would thoroughly recomend
they price the prints based on cubic cm and it is £ 1 per cubic cm.
its very rare to have a model that will cost more than £700 as you can optimize our model to use less volume by hollowing solid bits etc.

You could always try a local University that has a decent engineering dept. Sometimes these machines pay their way by taking in work from the private sector, maybe worth a shot....
