for the drive to be used but both OS I think your right..fat/fat32

You can still install XP on an NTFS drive, but macos can only read from it and not write to it.

        Fat 32

Fat 32 has some weird issues - for awhile 32 Gigs was the largest partition you can make and if I'm not mistaken you are still limited to a 2 gig file size.

I would also have thought that your Graphics card options would be extremely limited with Macs - traditionally their thing has been to create the perfect box for you and what their idea of a perfect box is IMO wouldn't necessarily be the best 3D machine.

This could have changed by now - I do know that when I try to open Quicktimes off the Mac server over here at work through ram player in 3dsmax 7.5 it crashes.

The company I work for is 98% Mac - we design alot of their products and in my experience alot of things cause issues that shouldn't cause issues. Now I am getting way to personal but one thing that constantly drives me up the wall with Mac users is their use of non standard characters -$@%# - in file names - if you are near me when I am trying to open these files on a PC or re-source an After Effects that was created by a Mac user on a PC - you'll hear curse words you never even knew existed.

But then again it's your system - build it your way.

once you have installed XP the mac is a simple dual boot computer. One OS does not effect or talk to the other.
this is true. bootcamp doesnt run in the background and chew up resources or anything like that. and in my setup, OSX and XP are on seperate hard drives. in fact you dont even have to pass though bootcamp if you dont want to. the macpro will boot into windows XP by default just as it normally would on any pc.
I will be testing some software next week called Parallels
                    http://www.parallels.com/
This software will make it very easy to switch from XP to OSX...touch of a button. It does run in the background but the macpro is enough of a beast that I think it can handle it just fine.
if anyone wants me to run a specific test or 3D related benchmark let me know...i'll have some time to test it.

I would not use parallels for 3dsmax... it doesn't do any video card acceleration. So basic apps on Windows will work fine, but 3DSMax is out of the question.
