was it the autodesk roadshow? I went to the one in Glasgow showing max 9 and maya 8.

Highlight : after the max demonstrator had said how amazingly stable max was, and how over the last year of beta testing it had only crashed on him twice...... it went on to crash

Maya has some really nice render layers, and point cache tools, new modelling functions....

the max demonstration was basically what we've all seen from the sigraph videos... it certainly looks good and fast.... animation layers looks interesting.

A friend of mine (Maya user) has been saying good things about the Maya render layers, apparently you can assign different renderers to different layers.

Thats the least of it, it caches each render layer, so you can update only the layers you need updated, and it does this all in the viewport. Very nice.
