  • interlacing animation frames

Hi. Perhaps somebody can help with this issue.

I created a 2100 frame interior walkthrough, without fields, and no motion blur either. In my infinite wisdom (hehe) I thought I would be able to interlace these frames for PAL with AE and get a nice smooth result suitable for TV.

Well I have managed to improve the quality and reduce flicker to a degree with AE adding fields (and yes the field dominance is correct before anybody asks ), and Reelsmart Motion Blur, but it's not great. Now I wish I had rendered with fields, so I would have a nice smooth animation, though I thought the rendering overhead might go up significantly!?

Anyways, my main question is, does anybody know of any software, or other methods I might use to get a nice clean flicker free animation in PAL format short of re-rendering with fields?

Thanks in advance for all responses.

If you've ever played an uninterlaced animation (or with incorrect field dominance), with no motion blur, on a TV set, anytime there is significant momevement in the animation you will be get a flicker, or maybe better described as a shudder in the image.

Does that explain what I meant any better?

I found a prog called AVISynth that creates fields from exisiting frames, it's not great though.

It never will be great, interlacing pushes up the rendertimes and smoothness because it effectivly doubles the fps - you cant pull this information out of thin air.

Hi Cubicleganster, thanks for the reply - I feared that might be the answer - never mind, I live and learn
