  • Best 3D tree software/plugin?

Which software/plugin do you prefer for making 3D trees for Max? Building pretty dense forests, wooded clumps, etc. Checking out Onyx and XFrog now, other suggestionsm or which is prefered? Looking for 3D trees with no opacity maps, got joconnell's leafconvert plugin so can convert if need be, to save on rendertime.

    Thanx in advance

    Oynx is good

I use Oynx and it's, good stable and works with Vray. I haven't used it a huge amount - 2 or 3 threes but I like it alot and the tech support was good when I had one or two issues with Opacity maps.

For now it's onyx. VRay proxies and that's it. Xfrog - damn lots of opacity maps, BUT you can create any organic model inside it without maps.
I just can't seem to trust myself
So what chance does that leave, for anyone else?

I really liked Onyx Tree Pro when I used it (its been quite a few years since I have). I actually have found that making them in max using PFlow works very well. It is even better with the PFlow Tool Box's, but they aren't completely necessary. I have a small library of them shown on my website
          http://www.charleycarlat.com/products/index.html

If you are not up for the challenge of using native max, I would suggest Onyx Tree Pro. The interface may very have changed since I last used it, but once you get the hang of it, it allows for some really nice plant creations.

Also, check out XFrogs library. I found the program a bit awkward to use, but I had learned Onyx first and that may have had something to do with it. But they have a pretty nice library of premade trees. It might be worth looking into it just for those.

We use Onyx and Charleyc's plants (highly recommended!), we also have bionatics but you have to jump through hoops to use them, the licensing and safeguards are a little on the paranoid side.

                  Thanks jacksc02 and RErender.

Not only are they northern hemisphere plants, most of them are fairly specific to the south western states. When I have time, I will do custom plants, if any of you are interested. If any of you are interested in making your own in max, I can give a bit of an overview.

                              Hi KVMaster !

Here is a very good plugin to make trees for 3DS Max/Viz. ARBORETUM
It uses opacity for leaves but is very efficient...
Moreover, pine trees have needles made with Vray fur.
All the textures are Vray materials.

There are two series, the first one will give you acces to vine trees in a
few time and the second one has more florished trees.

                              Here is the link:

If you need more info, you can contact me.
I forgot to mention that there is a free version to test...
the trees may be animated too and can receive 2D or 3D snow...

                              Bye !
