  • WinXP 64bit memory issue - got 4gis RAM - just 3.25 showing

    Hello everyone,

Ive got this strange problem, ive recently upgraded my computer, bought some extra Ram, now i have 4gigs, but the windows system is showing that i have only 3.25 Gigs available.

when i go to the bios, it shows that there are 4.096 Gigs of mem on board.
also the test program that was linked in another similar topic on this forum shows 4 gigs...

What can i do to fix this....i gues this is not a bios issue since the size of RAM in bios is correct.

    Anybody having similar problems?

    Please help

Yeah, had this problem on our latest dual opteron rendernode. As I recall its a BIOS setting that reserves a certain portion of memory for various things. I will ask my IT guy on Monday exactly how he fixed it.

Okay, the BIOS setting to look for is a setting for a memory hole that is reserved for system graphics and something to do with aperture size. Sorry I can't be more specific than that but thats what I was told.

Anyway, set it the the minimum (zero?) and it should solve your problem. The node that once showed only about 3.3 gig now shows as having 4094.36 Mb of ram.
