  • Quicktime Movie File - help required please

Hi, wondering if anyone could help on this topic please.

I'm trying to create a short animation (3 1/2 mins) - with the final format being Quicktime.

I've rendered the frames out as Tiffs and used Premier to do the final edit - normally I would export as .wmv or mpg but this time Quicktime is required.

I exported the final movie out of Premier at 720x576 (pal res) and used the H.264 codec - here's the question....

The file size for the created movie is 670 Mb!! The quality is fantastic - but the file size seems incredibly large - is this normal??

I've seen various showreels from fellow forum members, ie Tim Jones, Richard Rosenman etc and their reels / animations seem to very high in visual quality but relativley low in final file size.

Is there something I'm doing wrong here?

Any help / advice would be much appreciated as this is driving me nuts!!

    Thanks in advance

Instead of Premiere, use Quicktime Pro to stitch the final tiff or targa sequence into a .mov

The H.264 codec is good, but you need to play with the bitrate settings to get the final file size smaller.

Dynedain's suggestion of using Quicktime Pro is probably the best way that I know of to get high quality QT movies with small file sizes. For my reel I didn't do that though.

I wrote mine out of premiere using Sorenson 3. Set the quality bar slider to 65%, Uncheck both of the data rate checkboxes and set keyframes to 120 frames. You can also compress the audio with IMA 4:1 and lower the sample rate to 32000Hz.

This gives good results, but I'm sure someone around here knows this stuff better than I do and can make some better recommendations.

I have had good results with the mpeg4 codec and quicktime. The last
time I loaded final frames into ram player, and I used the mpeg 4
codec. The quality was very nice and the file size was 32 mb for 20
        seconds.
