    @jujubee: Sounds uncool?
My CRT was/is a SONY FW900. the color setting of the dell are really "stripped down". I still don't know if its sRGB (what ever this) or not.
There is only "PC-Standard", "MAC-Standard", and three RGB sliders. No Color Temperature - which maybe is caused by the technology - who knows.
While the CRT had this switch "sRGB", told you to set brightness/contrast and gave me the feeling everything is alright.

So if not these trains had caused a frizzel-shiver on the screen everytime they come by - I still would be jealous of all you people having those stylish TFTs.

But I don't regret buying the DELL. In fact I missed the offer to buy two for 1.5. But as I said - the color shifting is annoying. escpessially if you are sitting with a customer in front of the TFT and everybody sees a different image.

ok, and what about input lag. I read that it's huge.

Excuse my ignorance but what is input lag?

Reason I ask is I've got a SyncMaster 244T as well.

Like everything else computers, you're not going to get it all. So you'll either have to make due, or get different equipment for different purposes.

The input lag I imagine he's talking about is the display latency. When viewing an LCD, it takes some time for the crystals to re-polarize to create the different levels of RGB, if this latency is huge when watching video you'll see ghosting or trails behind objects. CRT's don't have this problem, which is why you still see so many people in video using them.

So some panels, like the Eizo ones that appear to be some of the most color-accurate (or at least color-adjustable) flat panels have slow refresh rates. Some 'gamer' panels have much faster refresh rates, but I've only seen these limited to 19".

Best option would be a highly color-accurate LCD next to a CRT if you have to do any video work... at least until the SED displays are out (maybe later this year/early next year?)

Eric, I don't have chance to see so many LCD in one store here in CYprus so could you tell me what do you think is the best optimal size? I was thinking about getting 20" and after some time adding 24"
I wasn't really looking that close, I may go by the store this weekend, if I do I look closer. I think most of the monitors they had were in the 17"-20" range.

Thanks for the explanation dapeter, the 244T has a response time of 8ms according to the specs, I don't know whether that's good or not though. I don't get mouse trails no matter how quickly I move the mouse though.

I've got two 8ms LCDs (one Dell and one Acer) and don't notice any lag/latency whatsoever when playing games (no ghosting.)

As for colors, when I stack my Dell next to the 19" NEC CRT or my other 19" Viewsonic, the Dell blows them both away. I couldn't believe I was sending my clients images processed through either one of the CRTs - there's that much of a difference. The other thing is pure vibrancy - I can't get my CRT to come close to what the LCD can produce. Another thing is footprint - you'll have a lot more space to work on your desk. Last but not least is that the Dells have an adjustable height stand - alot of LCDs only have rotation.

One of my finicky clients even stopped bugging me about color issues. Perhaps he was viewing my stuff on a laptop.

The only problem I can see is with what rdg has to say - viewing angle is bad if someone is sitting at a 45 degree angle. Then again, clients have never been to my house.

i can simply do anything with that monitor. Play games, watch movies, everithing is nice and crisp.

I must admit i had a little problem in¨stalling the monitor under win64bit

i do not know what caused the crashes of MagicColor, but everything works fine now when i reinstalled everything from scratch.

Go for Samsung 244T mate....if u wont like it ill buy it from u with a small discout of course )))))

yep, this was also my concern. This NEC 26" will have 0.287. NEC 20" have 0,255. I'm thinking that with 26" LCD is like with 19" that you got nothing more that bigger pixel. So I guess 24" to 26" will be like 17" to 19" with 17" and 24" you will get better quality image and the same work area.

                          thats for sure
really i find widescreen 24inch absolutelly optimal and i dont need second monitor at all...it saves me loads of time panning and zooming when modelling and also compositing scene and setting camera is much clearer now. For me it was the best buy i have made in years
