different import results in max 5/8

for some time now i import my cad geometry (dxf) in max with the standard layer import option.

if i use the same option in max 8 the importer explodes the geometry in hundrets of different object..

any ideas?
maybe a "import like max5" script?

do not think so. units are m and the scale is correct. just the geometry is messed up..

There should be an option like < group objects by layer > or similar.
And BTW, from MAX 7 (AFAIK) you can import directly DWG format.

yes , i used that option. but the results are the same or worse.
what i do now is that i import into max5 and merge in max8 which is really silly.

Try the file link manager instead of a direct import.
