Can someone shed some light...... My computer is using almost 2.7 gigs of memory, but the top 4 things in my task manager are photoshop, firefox, yahoo and outlook...PS is only using 200. Of course when I close out it goes down......Any light on the subject

Nah....I assume that it is PS that is doing it....I closed out PS and the memory shot down 2 gigs......Is it the clipboard that is doing it? Or is it a mem leak from PS? I know firefox is a hog....but what isnt these days... lol..I mean Word is using 100 megs.....Just seems sometimes that I have to close PS every couple hours or so for performance.

When using Photoshop, it hogs alot of ram so, if you minimise it, it will reduce the amount of ram its using.

Just keep an eye on your task manager when you do it.

This will save you having to close out of it regularly.

Hah....I never saw that before.....I wish that worked for all applications.....

130 Billion polygon renderings-- 2 gigs ram
          234 xrefs -- 500 megs
          everything reflecting another gig
and NO proxies -- 2.5 gigs

          Minimize 3D Studio.... Priceless

yes, you could describe this Photoshop behaviour as a memory leak.
Once photshop uses a certain amount of memory, it doesn't "release" this memory after closing the document.

try this: open a picture and resize to something like 15000 pixels wide and apply a gaussian blur.
PS will now take about 600 megs RAM in taskmanager.
now close the document created above and be amazed that PS still takes 600 megs.....
So after editing a few large pictures, photoshop memory usage will be a few GB.

IMO this is bad programming, photoshop should release memory after closing the document.
it will probably take Adobe another 9 versions before this will be adressed.....
