  • Buying 3d Car Bundles

We are thinking about purchasing some mid to high 3d cars. Would be nice if it comes with vray materials like the123d.com offered. Dosch offers 15 cars for $119 VS 123d offers individually for $89-$120 with vray material which is quite expensive.

Did anyone purchased any of them? any suggest? any other option? please let me know, Thanks!!

We've purchased a bunch of their (Dosch) car collections. The models are of pretty high quality. At least for archviz purposes. There are errors in the models - missing faces, odd edge placement.

One thing that's frustrating is that some of the objects are put together with multi/sub-object materials, which is okay, but the things that are connected don't really make any sense to be together. For instance, the window glass will be connected to the front grill, wheel wells and headlights. ??? And somebody thought that was a good idea.

The materials are a bit of a mess IMO. You'll want to spend some time working over the shaders. I still have a giant pile of them to work into our pipeline.

The other thing that is also nice/annoying is that the geometry is set-up for using meshsmooth. The problem is that each body panel has a separate modifier applied. So to smooth the whole bloody car you have to go around to each panel and set the iteration value. It would have been nicer if they had applied one modifier to all the panels.

So, they are a pretty good value in terms of the quantity/quality of the models but they're not really set-up for drag-n-drop kind of use. To make them a useful part of your pipeline I think you'd have to spend about 30 minutes to 2 hours per model to clean them up.

To be fair - I don't have the particular volume you are referring to (2006 cars). I've got their other car volumes. So I can't be certain if my comments apply to the 2006 volume.

        thx

Sounds like Dosch's car is a better option. I was just wondering if there are cheapper way to go. I think Dosch's price is pretty good compare with 123d's. I think i will go with it. Thanks a lot of for your responds.

we have dosch cars I think. They do require some adjustments, but its still quicker then modeling if yourself from scratch

Squir has some very nice models, really haven't seen any bad geometry in his models http://www.squir.com/index.php?str=main&kategoria=2 If you buy enough at on time he'll probably cut you a deal but as it is the prices are pretty good.

You would need to make up your own mats as they only come with brazil and scanline. But thats probabaly the best way anyway.

the dosch ones are good, but as its been pointed out some of the elements are very messy. If you do get the dosch cars I would recommend recreating all the glass its a big mess!
