  • Backburner 2007?

Anyone using it in a heavy render environment? Any better/worse than BB3? BB3 really sucks, it can't keep track of priority and crashes alot, I'd like to get rid of it.

    Thanks for any feed back!

Have you installed the newest build for backburner? That should take care of the crashing problem.

I haven't tried anything else yet.

Yep all updates installed, that's why I am hoping they fixed a few things in backburner 2007. We overload it all the time and really should byuy deadline but there's other things to spend the money on.

i do agree that backburner does have its short comings, we also use it everyday and probably one of the most unstable programs we use right now.

A nice thing about BB 2007 is that it actually calculates correctly the remaining time to finish a render based on the number of computers u have working on it. Previously it only showed the time as if u were using a single computer....Priority changing has always worked fine here, but dependences have not, you cannot change a dependence right now without having to reopen the max file...
Another buggy area appears when u try to reassign some tasks to some other computers, remove them from previous ones...it randomly fails...

People are reporting on the adesk forum that BB 2007 is screwy in that it sometimes only assigns one computer per job. I've seen it happen myself. The simple solution is to reinstall BB 3.01 or 3.02 on the manager machine only.

Good to know, thanks for the feedback.

We have a custom submittal process thas assigns nodes to jobs by name, maybe the single assignment issue would be avaoided.

bb2007 is really good, its far better than BB 3.02 you can actually add dependencies to a job once its submitted now which has never worked. Editing setting of a submitted job tends to crash BB montior which is a pain.
We are looking into deadline or an inhouse app as a BB replacement as BB is crap.

                  Hi,

switching to a 3d party render manager would also solve the problem that you can't send renderjobs to a mixed 64 / 32 bit farm with max 9. This issue brings the most headaches right now. 32 bit max 9 on a 64 bit windows is not supported by autodesk right now. This means that if you want to send a job to your 32 bit renderslaves you have to reboot. That's really annoying.

Ive been taking a look at backburner 2007.0.2_224, and sadly found its one of those upgrades where you spend an hour or so trying to spot the difference.

                    You can get it here:

                    http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet...linkID=5573636

Not really any new features worth talking about to be honest and yeah the monitor is very un-stable, well its is on my 3.0Ghz dual zeons but runs ok on my old amd 2400 machine that I just run licences on??

Anyway still testing! PLEASE AUTODESK Make BB what it should and can be!

man that sending job to one machine is the most frustrating thing ever. We had to nix it ourselves. I've wanted to suggest deadline or another package, but yeah, it costs money better spent elsewhere I guess. We just muddle through...

I just dont understand why these guys cant make a solid BB app? surely it cant be that hard with all the big brains that autodesk have? i could be wrong ..

You might say they put Backburner on the "Back Burner" eh? Thank you, I'll be here all night!

Atleast it seems like the new Backburner servers can talk to the older 3.0 version manager, so if you have a dedicated manager setup on another machine, don't touch it.

hmmm, maybe the backburner programmers are getting kick backs from Frantic to break it, the command line stuff seams to still work fine... :P
