  • Needed - boat model library

Does anyone have any recommendations for boat models? I need to do an image of a shipyard and was wondering if anyone knew of any good sources.

Edit* - I should add that I'm looing regular modern sailboats and motorboats.

if you can put it into your budget to the client there are lots of boats over on turbosquid

Yeah I noticed. They're all rather scattered however, with different levels of quality and the pricetag will add up...

Got these from TS a couple of months ago for a marina animation, they are ideal as long as you dont get too close!!

There seems to be a lack of good 3d yacht models around. I've been thinking about creating some high quality yacht collections for a while now. I was going to bundle them up as follows -

            Small yacht collection - 25 to 50ft 4 sailing yachts + 4 power yachts
            Medium yacht collection - 50 to 80ft 4 sailing yachts + 4 power yachts
            Large yacht collection - 80 to 130ft 4 sailing yachts + 4 power yachts
            Super yacht collection - 130ft + 4 sailing yachts + 4 power yachts

What do you guys think? Would collections like these be usefull? How much would you be prepared to pay per collection... 160 GBP?

Sorry jujubee, I know this doesn't help you right now, but maybe in 6 months time!

            Rob.

I'd be interested and the price sounds good. I can't say I'd buy it right away but a few months ago I needed a good yacht and was frustrated by what I found on turbosquid; either too expensive (and probably too detailed) or too "toy" looking.

Thanks guys for all your help. I really appreciate it.

@flino - thanks, saw those last night and it wouldnt be a bad purchase (theyre very reasonable and relatively good stuff) but definitely for a distance shot.

@tigerx - thanks too - didn't see those on Turbosquid before. That may very well be part of the solution. I do need a couple closeups however.

@mcvltd - if it was good quality (reasonable poly ratio) and especially if it had been setup for Vray, I would have bought them. It's funny cause when I was browsing Turbosquid, those were my exact same thoughts. I don't quite know how much 160GBP is - guess I could google it. I just don't have the time unfortunately to model at the moment. It's amazing what turbosquid lacks at times.

160 GBP = 304 USD at the mo.

I'm going to model them in Modo using all quads, so that they can be mesh smoothed to what ever detail level you require. Hopefully the sub-d's in modo are the same/similar to mesh smooth in max so that the final model will look the same. I'll give it a go anyway.

Will be supplied with all vray matls too.

Haven't checked Viewpoint. The Deespona's are large models or ancient ships mainly - not necessarily modern or common.

Hmmm. Nothing there would really fit a typical marina. One or two regular sailboats but theyre not good for closeups.
