  • Texturing Dosch cars

I am thinking of purchasing one of Dosch's car libraries of European cars. Assuming I do, is it going to be relatively painless to put realistic textures on there - mainly carpaint? I've never messed with car-paint - farrrr too technically advanced for a mere mortal like me!

In a nutshell, will I be able to make them look real at mid distance in a shot?
    Kind Regards,

The Dosch cars are a pretty good bargain but there is some weirdness to be dealt with which I pointed out in this thread.

If you take the time to deal with these issues the models should look great even in the foreground.

I have not used these, or heard any feedback from anyone who has. They supposedly have VRay materials applied, and the test renders look alright. Prices seem about average at $70 USD per car(3 models, low medium and high poly), with the price per car dropping when buying more at one time.

Would like to know how well these work "out of the box" with VRay if anyone has them, or gets any of them later on.

*EDIT*Nevermind, seems they have a free download for review.

I just bought a car from Turbosquid created by (I assume) an individual.
Dosch's version of the same car was also on Turbosquid (I didn't know they sold individual models on TS before this).

so you might try with buying a single Dosch model from TS first

The model I bought (90$) was really easy to re-texture. All nicely split out though it is one big multisub.
Model is not bad, kind of mid res, so poly edges show up on close ups but that's with the car filling the frame.

Sugar 3d are good. Need a little work, but i'm talking 2 hours work for 10 sets of cars.

Materials are labeled well too, so you can change paint colours easily.

Just looking at the sample from Sugar3d - looks pretty good as long as I can get enough British cars!

Out of interest, what technique do people use with the glass on multi-sub object type cars when rendering? With buildings, for instance, I generally tell all windows not to cast shadows and not to be visible to GI - I know it isn't 'accurate' but it works fine for me. With a multi-sub object type object, is it a matter of detatching all the glass elements and using the same technique, or is there something better nowadays - I appreciate my method is a bit 'old skool'!
