  • how to repeat object along a path/object

    hi,
just a quick question on modelling/repeating a railling on a wall, the wall is a boundary wall on a development, I need to put a railing set into the top surface of the wall.
I was thinking of using the scatter command, so as to run the railings along it but as the path is crooked and I must use the selected faces on the wall some sections get more railing that others, using the 'even' setting doesnt do anything, obviously I want the railings to be equispaced from eachother so the scatter option isnt a runner, any ideas? it could be real easy, I just cant think of it at the mo,

    Thanks,
    Tom

The old-fashioned way is to animate the railing post along the defined path using a linear percent controller. Then use the snapshot tool to capture it every so many frames.

These days you could probably just use the Spacing Tool. It's designed for equidistant placement between point or along a path.

Lastly, you should look at the AEC Railing object in case you don't know about it. It ain't bad for simple railings.
